Associate development manager


My client has a requirement for an Associate Development Manager to work with the PMO and IT Development Manager to plan and manage the delivery of operational IT development activity. As well as planning and co-ordination across the department, the role holder will also be responsible for directly managing a small team of .NET developers.

The role holder will be expected to develop an excellent understanding of the complex architecture, business processes and functionality of the my clients systems in order to be able to undertake change impact assessments and to be able to advise on business and technical initiatives.

Whilst helpful to have a technical development background, the planning, co-ordination, team leading and functional and technical architecture elements of this role are considerably more important.

The role will report to the IT Development Manager and will be located at the group's Head Office in Crewe.

Key Role Responsibilities:

Typical work activities will include:

  • Work with the PMO to understand business and IT initiated projects as well as ad-hoc change requests.
  • Work with the IT Development Manager and development team leads to analyse projects and ad-hoc change requests in order to scope out the necessary development tasks and to prepare associated development estimates.
  • Co-ordination of the operational development pipeline, ensuring development tasks are appropriately defined and managed, and that tasks are assigned to developers in line with agreed priorities, escalating conflicts and issues where appropriate.
  • Manage the scheduling and delivery of development tasks, ensuring project managers, business analysts, developers and IT management are aware of progress, priorities, issues and status.
  • Manage the Online Authorisation (OLA) team, providing day-to-day leadership and also taking responsibility for managing the OLA development pipeline and working with stakeholders to proactively identify new business opportunities.
  • Monitor progress against plans and provide regular updates to IT Development Manager.

Experience required:

The essential skills/attributes are:

  • Experience of managing a development pipeline using issue tracking and project management tools such as Jira.
  • Experience of allocating development tasks to developers based on skills, availability, task priorities etc.
  • Experience of managing and prioritising project-related development and ad-hoc system change requests
  • Ability to understand complex business processes and to understand how systems have been architected to support these processes in order that system change requests can be assessed.
  • Ability to communicate development progress to stakeholders including IT and business resources.
  • Experience of managing a small development team.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and to effectively manage customer expectations.

Ability to build a strong rapport with members of the IT Team and the wider business teams
