Barnsley Council’s IT department plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of services to the public. An opportunity is available for a front end web developer to join our team, developing and maintaining our local government websites and commercial systems. We want someone who is confident working in a team and passionate about the value that great design brings to the quality of our work.
You’ll be responsible for designing and coding high quality website solutions and web application interfaces that our customers and employees will choose to use over contacting our face to face offices or call centres. We want these online solutions to be their channel of choice and the first thing they think of when they want to do business with us. This post therefore provides a great opportunity to work for and to support the local community.
You’ll develop and support the web content management technology that underpins our main website at barnsley.gov.uk and our wider portfolio of websites. We use the open source product Umbraco for this - experience of which would be helpful but isn’t essential. You’ll also develop and support our C# .NET solutions working with our team of developers to produce transactional web applications and eForms. Having UX, UI or front-end design experience to make these as attractive and intuitive as possible would be advantageous.
You’ll work in our ICT Technical Specialist role as part of a wider IT structure, reporting directly to our ICT Manager’s in the Information Technology (IT) department, operating across all the lifecycle stages of the ITIL framework. This role will require you to support a wide range of internal and external clients, including our Customer Services and Digital Development Teams – the areas of the business responsible for understanding customer requirements and commissioning digital solutions.
You’ll work on a number of challenging projects, impacting varying stakeholder groups from adults with social care needs, to children in schools looking for their first big career step.
The successful candidate will be able to clearly demonstrate extensive skills and experience in the following areas:
• HTML (essential)
• CSS (essential)
• C# .NET (essential)
• SASS stylesheet pre-processing (advantageous but not essential)
• Experience working with Umbraco (advantageous but not essential)
• Project management experience (an Agile methodology preferred but not essential)
• Team leadership / facilitation experience
Note that this is a developer role. You will be expected to develop websites and web applications using some or all of the skills listed above. We will provide all the necessary software but it’s essential that you have the necessary skills.
For further information regarding the role, please contact Richard Kingston via email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 07590484299.
CVs will not be accepted.
Further details and how to apply are available from our website at www.barnsley.gov.uk or (01226) 772250.
