Barnsley Council’s IT department plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of services to the public. An opportunity is available for a web tester to join our in-house software development team and establish a formal approach to the testing of our local government websites and web application solutions. We want someone who is confident working in a team and passionate about the value that appropriate software testing brings to the quality of our work.
You’ll be responsible for designing and coding unit tests, automated UI tests and integration tests to ensure our digital software solutions are fit for purpose before they’re released into a live environment. You will use C#, .NET MVC, WCF and REST API solutions with Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server and will be expected to recommend and implement changes to operational practices in order to facilitate a more substantial testing regime, providing training and skills transfers where necessary.
We want to provide the best digital customer service and online user experiences with our software products, such that our customers and employees choose to use them over contacting our face to face offices and call centres. We want our IT solutions to be their channel of choice and the first thing they think of when they want to do business with us. This post therefore provides a great opportunity to work for and to support the local community.
You’ll work in our ICT Technical Specialist role as part of a wider IT structure, reporting directly to our ICT Manager’s in the Information Technology (IT) department, operating across all the lifecycle stages of the ITIL framework. This role will require you to support a wide range of internal and external clients, including our Customer Services and Digital Development Teams – the areas of the business responsible for understanding customer requirements and commissioning digital solutions.
You’ll work on a number of challenging projects, impacting varying stakeholder groups from adults with social care needs, to children in schools looking for their first big career step.
The successful candidate will be able to clearly demonstrate extensive skills and experience in the following areas:
• C# .NET MVC (essential)
• Unit Testing (essential)
• Integration Testing (essential)
• MSTest, nUnit, Coding UI (essential)
• Project management experience (an Agile methodology preferred but not essential)
• Team leadership / facilitation
Note that this is a developer role. You will be expected to be hands on, using some or all of the skills listed above. We will provide all the necessary software but it’s essential that you have the necessary skills.
For further information regarding the role, please contact Richard Kingston via email email@example.com or phone 07590484299.
CVs will not be accepted.
