This IT Project Manager role is based in the UK arm of a multinational which prides itself on empowering its staff to support their customers through collaborative approaches to focused IT services. We like the company because of their stated diversity policies which clearly value all staff equally. We believe the company fully understands the value of their people and how that translates into satisfied customers.
Purpose of the Role:
The company works across several market sectors to implement IT services around the infrastructure of the network. The IT Project Manager role will enable the customer projects to be undertaken and completed in a professional, timely and competent way.
Anyone taking the role will need to be comfortable to interact with internal users and external customers at all levels to ensure that projects complete to the satisfaction of everyone. If you are someone who loves to deliver on what people expect and need, and really enjoys getting people to work together effectively to finish projects on time and to budget, this job will really appeal to you. You might be the person who loves the variety that this type of role can offer.
A key part of the role is working to manage IT projects at customer sites, and therefore, there is an element of pre-sales about the job. That means that you would need to present to potential customers about the projects you will undertake; but, any Project Manager used to working with stakeholders will be happy with this requirement. The other part about managing customer projects is, of course, the fact that when you go over time or budget, then there is an impact on the customer contract. You will be used to creating clear plans to balance your priorities and to ensure that contractual conditions are stuck to.
Of course, the Project Manager who takes up this opportunity will need to be familiar with planning and overseeing multi-site projects, with lots of equipment, software and services involved. They will be happy to use their skills to collect ideas and information to include in bids and proposals, might be skilled at negotiating for limited resources.
You will be comfortable in your Project Management skills and will know how to deliver IT Projects on time, within budget, and you will have a careful organisational eye on interdependent entities within your projects.
Oh!...and you will have a real sensitive understanding of people so that you can ensure that everyone is able to interact positively to ensure the best outcome for your projects. Your emotional intelligence will enable you to build and keep great relationships with your customers, your internal users and your peers. As an IT Project Manager you will have led (or facilitated) colleagues, peers and executives, to meet project outcomes and deadlines.
This job will require travel to customer sites, but there will be time to plan your life around this.
You will be PRINCE2, APM or PMI qualified, will have worked with AGILE methodologies or similar. You might even have ITIL, which would be great (but not a show stopper if you don’t). You will be competent with all the Microsoft Office tools or equivalents for building customer proposals, documentation and presentations.
