Lead Oracle Database Analyst (ITIL, Analyst, Data Analyst, SQL Server, Oracle)
Joining the IT Service Delivery team as a Lead Oracle Database Analyst (ITIL, Analyst, Data Analyst, SQL Server, Oracle), you will be responsible for the successful execution of operational support and maintenance activities across all database platforms. Your role will optimise the technical capability of the database operations delivered by our vendors and ensure database services are regularly reviewed for availability, capacity, scalability, performance, recoverability, and security. You will work closely with our internal delivery and operations teams to ensure high performance of mission critical systems.

What the Lead Oracle Database Analyst (ITIL, Analyst, Data Analyst, SQL Server, Oracle) will be doing
As a Senior Database Analyst you will be providing 2nd level problem determination and support services for our travel systems both in live and test environments, liaising closely and working in collaboration with the Delivery Teams, Incident and Change Management Teams, as well as third party suppliers. You will be expected to build and maintain detailed knowledge of TUI-UK production applications and their interfaces, understanding corporate systems, their interdependencies and how they support the business.
You will be accountable for ensuring our database management service providers deploy appropriate database management process and associated methods/techniques. You will be responsible for ensuring that database management policies, processes and procedures are defined, adhering to ITIL good practice principles and are subjected to continuous improvement and remain fit for purpose. You will ensure routine operational maintenance tasks including installations, upgrades, patching, disaster recovery testing, monitoring, auditing, issue resolution are carried out by our 3rd party suppliers.
As a subject matter expert on all database related issues you will investigate problems arising from degraded database performance and make proposals for improvements as required and covering: Batch Timescales; Online Transaction performance; identification of processing bottlenecks. You will ensure an appropriate level of performance support monitoring is in place across all databases, identifying any trends and take appropriate actions to ensure performance and capacity risks are mitigated or resolved or proposals to do so are made to senior management. You will be responsible for reviewing system design changes to ensure they adhere to expected service standards and recommend changes to ensure maximum stability, availability and efficiency of the supported applications.
You will work closely with the Problem and Incident Management Team to identify the root causes of major impact incidents, recommend & implement permanent resolutions to prevent reoccurrences. This will require collaboration with Development Teams where code changes are required to resolve incidents and ensure these are released into production in a controlled manner. You will be responsible for adhering to Change and Configuration management processes, attending the Change Advisory Board and work with Release Management to ensure all database changes are reviewed for quality, rigorous testing and contingency/back-out planning, and that any supporting documentation is fully updated and to the agreed quality standard prior to implementation.
What we are looking for in a Lead Oracle Database Analyst (ITIL, Analyst, Data Analyst, SQL Server, Oracle)
• Certified Oracle Server Database Administrator (11c, 12g, RAC, Exadata) with +7 years’ experience required.
• Expert level diagnostic, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills of complex databases required.
• Experience managing other database platforms including MySQL, SQL Server, or Mongo preferred.
• Experience managing multiple OLTP and OLAP installations with experience with architecting, writing, and debugging SQL and PL/SQL.
• Strong knowledge of Disaster Recovery and Multi-Instance implementations and methodologies
• Demonstrated ability to quickly and independently learn new technologies to support DBA role (applications, operating systems, storage)
• Ability to thrive in a changing environment, and effectively and efficiently manage time across multiple projects and responsibilities.
• A BA/BS degree is required. Emphasis in Computer Science strongly preferred.
