Position: Senior PHP Developer

Comic Relief run the largest and some of the most creative fundraising events in the UK through Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, engaging the public, corporate sponsors and the BBC through multiple digital, media and broadcast channels. We are now seeking a Senior Developer to build and maintain our products that support our exciting global campaigns and fundraising efforts
Our brilliant but personable 7 engineers work in a larger team of 25. Each week we hold an ‘innovation forum’ where each member of the team can show case their latest ideas and prototypes.
We use Agile and have daily scrum meetings to rapidly discuss, design, prototype, build and deploy all of our applications. It’s important to us to consistently receive end user feedback on how we are progressing, so we always showcase what we have to our business users before the final release.

Why we need you!
The current role needs a hands on PHP Developer with experience of leading the build and ownership of Drupal and Symfony web applications and software or “the equivalent”.
The role includes but not limited to the following:
•Work closely with our lovely Tech Lead
•Contributing to the build and maintenance of our Drupal 8 websites
•Leading the way on our Symfony applications
•Provide strong direction and mentorship to our juniors
•Create documentation across projects
•Define performance KPIs for the team to target to keep the website performant through the year
•Set up deployment pipelines across sites together with our Web Ops team
•Maintain our secure Payments API
•Keep abreast of trends and developments in the Digital community and act as a source of knowledge regarding the choice of approach for new projects and application development

•You will need to show you have taken a lead and have had ownership on fairly complexed application builds. It is important you can discuss, design and prototype your code and ideas in a fairly robust and rapid way.
•We will be looking for a track record on developing, showing strong direction and mentoring junior developers. Growth and progression are a key force within our culture.
•Critical and methodical thinking is absolutely key to our creative and design process, bring your “A” game!
Technical Skills that are essential to the role
•Experience of website design and production for desktop, tablet and mobile, and application development, using various software applications and architectures.
•Exposure to building quality web applications through the use of good engineering practices and applying behaviour and test-driven development.
•Detailed knowledge of Web Services (REST etc),
•MySQL & MySQL optimisation
•PHP knowledge in either a PHP framework
•Experience with Agile practices
•Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, and a drive to automate
