Following THALES’ successful partnership with London Underground (LUL), modernising London’s underground signalling infrastructure on the Jubilee and Northern upgrade project (JNUP), we are delivering the £800million 4 Lines Modernisation Programme (4LM).

THALES is delivering an Automatic Train Control (ATC) system for four of London Underground’s Sub Surface Rail (SSR) lines: District, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City. The programme has a five year duration and is a comprehensive solution including management, design, development, manufacturing, supply, delivery, construction, installation, integration, testing, commissioning and migration. THALES UK are working in collaboration with the client and our colleagues in Canada and India to deliver this project.

About the Project Engineer (Signalling, Project, Engineer, Test) role:
We are currently recruiting for a Project Engineer (Signalling, Project, Engineer, Test) in London. Reporting to the Installation Technical Manager, the successful Project Engineer will act as an Installation Technical Engineer responsible for supporting the technical integrity of the installation, and the delivery of the PICO documents to the T&C team.

Your area of responsibility specifically relates to the legacy interface and CBTC Migration Area completion scopes of Installation work in coordination with the Installation Technical Manager, the night shift team and subcontractors.

The Signalling Project Engineer (Signalling, Project, Engineer, Test) position is a pivotal role in the project, acting as a key liaison between Field Operations, Engineering and Project Management and is suited to an individual with a strong technical background in rail signalling but also with some management support experience.
It is a full time, permanent position, working in London.

Duties & responsibilities of the Project Engineer (Signalling, Project, Engineer, Test) role:

- Technical assessment of Installation Subcontractor queries.
- Management of technical queries through the full life cycle from receipt to close-out.
- Ensure all assigned work is within the defined/agreed scope of activities and completed to schedule, budget (agreed hours) and to quality
- Maintain detailed team plan and schedule for site test activities reporting schedule issues
- Ensure reporting of all Compensation Event (CE) related to frustrated access.
- Conduct planning sessions with relevant stakeholders to ensure maximum utilisation of engineering time or weekend closures.
- Support TICs with development of Test & Commissioning plans and results analysis & certification.
- Ensure team licenses match team profiles to ensure completion of all allocated tasks on a nightly basis
- Excellent Safety culture maintained across team including cascading of relevant safety bulletins
- Communication of activities to night teams on a daily basis
- Support raising of test logs and discussion of test requirements for site activities.
- Support Software Release Readiness Reviews ahead of software deployment.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities and manage the change as appropriate
- Ensure all reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner

Skills & Experience of the Project Engineer (Signalling, Project, Engineer, Test) role:

Essential

- Relevant experience working in the rail industry
-IRSE Licensed
- Proficient in understanding/reading signalling/electrical diagrams & schematics
- Good understanding of planning methods and site access requirements
- Experience liaising with customer and broader project stakeholder group
- Awareness of LUL standards and conversant with basic safety requirements
- Good written and communication skills
- Good IT skills required us MS Office (Word/Excel) etc.

Desirable:

-Qualified as or working towards certification of IRSE licence Signalling Project Engineer (1.2.230v2)
- Knowledge of communication systems, network cabling and fibre installation
- Knowledge of TBTC / CBTC moving block signalling technologies
- Experience of urban rail signalling and central control room installation works
