Software Development Manager
Reporting directly to the IT Director, the Development Team Lead is responsible for delivering the best in class web experience for the customers of the Ski and Lake Brands of Crystal. You will help deliver the function's vision and strategy, and ensure that it is aligned with the business and IT strategies and all team members are aware of and focused on the same goals.
The Development Team Lead has significant contact with internal stakeholders so will be expected to build exceptional working relationships with all key stakeholders to deliver outstanding service.
What you will be doing as the Software Development Manager
The role of the Development Team Lead is to manage the web and MI development function of the Ski and Lake Brands of Crystal, part of TUI Mainstream UK&I. You will be managing a team of front-end and back-end developers, supporting them in building industry leading, search engine optimised, robust and innovative software solutions. You will be commercially focused and able to understand how technology can deliver against the overall business strategy. Creating and maintaining a professional culture within the team, where individuals take ownership and are fastidious and proud of delivering excellence and quality.
Your drive to understand the real development needs behind projects (and their success factors), will enable you to ensure that fit-for-purpose solutions are delivered on time and in full. However, your major skill will be in understanding and managing the relationships that exist within our dynamic environment, therefore you will excel at setting and meeting the expectations of the stakeholders.
While each project will have its own success factors your ability to motivate and manage your team through coaching, 121s and identifying their needs will be critical to your success.
What we are looking for in the Software Development Manager
•A highly capable line manager who has substantial experience of management/leadership in a software development role
•A talent for capacity planning to cover the pipeline of work, consisting of projects (working closely with programme manager) and services we provide, whilst enabling us to improve processes and reduce risks such as single point of failure or unforeseen workload.
•Experience of managing relationships with our resource partners to ensure flexible resourcing model strategy.
•Strong business relationship management to ensure expectations are met. This includes frequent communication with key stake holders and escalations dealt with in a timely manner.
•Strong experience of development and support of an E-Commerce web platform using Scrum methodology and Agile practices
•Willingness to dive into software environments and technical issues
•Experience with automation and DevOps tools such as Puppet and Jenkins and managing the development of cloud based applications
•Experience in Java programming and J2EEapplication server software development
•Relevant experience with web services and REST and also Wicket and/or Spring frameworks
•Experience with Apache, Tomcat and MySQL
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (desirable)
•Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
•Our business operates in a 24x7x365 environment; applicants must be flexible in their approach to the working day, occasionally working beyond and outside of core business hours. Core business hours are defined as Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.30pm
