Job Description

As a Performance QA Engineer on our team you’ll be testing the performance of the solution, measuring the impact of enhancements being made to ensure we continually maintain and improve the ASOS experience for our millions of customers across the world. Additionally you will be a real asset to our development teams, by providing them with the training and support to enable them to conduct effective performance testing early and regularly as part of their development lifecycle. We’ve got some really exciting projects going on as we re-platform much of the site to a cloud based Azure architecture, something you will be heavily involved in – when we’re done we’ll have one of the largest Azure implementations in the world.

We used to outsource our Performance Engineering team so the department is relatively new, which means that the Performance Engineer will also have an incredibly important part in the future of the team and a direct input into how it’s structured and its processes.

If you’ve been working in a similar role or are an experienced .Net software engineer with a passion for building scalable, well performing solutions and now want to step into a high visibility role with incredible career acceleration, then this is one of those rare opportunities.

What you’ll be doing:
Creating web and load tests in Visual Studio to extend an existing performance test pack to cover new requirements
Preparing for test execution, including environment and data set up
Inspiring and enabling Scrum teams to embrace performance engineering throughout the lifecycle: performance profiling; component performance testing “in-sprint”; building a regular feedback loop into their CI pipeline
Supporting Scrum teams with their testing, helping them plan based on their requirements, and providing training and support for scripting, execution and results analysis
Leading on the definition of release level performance test plans
Helping to embed a consistent operations (monitoring and alerting) approach across teams
Refining the performance engineering strategy, in line with new technologies, techniques and learning
Researching new tools and techniques
Being an authority on, and advocate for, performance engineering principles across ASOS Tech
Depending on your level of experience you may be mentoring other members of the team, supporting their growth and managing their backlog

Who we’d like to meet:
An experienced Performance Tester, Analyst or Engineer who wants to join an exciting new team. You’ll also have:
Strong Visual Studio and C# skills, preferably with experience of VS Ultimate and / or VSO
Strong performance testing background with extensive experience developing and implementing performance test strategies and plans OR software engineering background with a passion for improving performance, scalability and availability
Ability to effectively work across multiple teams and disciplines, supporting their adoption of performance engineering practices, mentoring where valuable
A good understanding of micro service and cloud based architectures
Experience of using monitoring tools, e.g. APM tools
Experience of test environment and data setup and maintenance
Mentoring experience

Why work here:
Generous salary, bonus and pension matching
Great development programmes
Amazing offices and great culture
25 days holiday plus one extra day for your birthday
Subsidised gym and canteen
Huge staff discount and regular sample sales
Life Insurance, medical care, cycle to work scheme
And tonnes more…
